Dread in Japan

Hired, Fired, and Hired again.

September 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

So it has been a crazy weekend for me. Second day as an English teacher and I get fired. They told me “beat it!” straight. Their reason for asking me too leave was that the students didn’t feel comfortable with me.  I only taught 1 student by myself that day and the student seemed happy. I think the issue had more to do with the owner of the company. I met her that day for the first time.  I don`t think she liked me at all from the get go. She sat in on my first classes and told me to teach about using “have been”. To practice with the student, I asked “have you been in trouble?”(which was in the textbook), to help her understand “in trouble” I added “with the police?”. The student answered no problem and understood “in trouble”. Before I could move on, the owner asks me if I had any trouble with the police.  I respond “No” and she starts telling me about Japanese people do not usually have problems with the police. What people usually have problems with the police???? American people? Canadian People? Or black people??? Anyways, I will document the full story on the work-in-japan page shortly. The good news is I got another job working for an internet company editing English work. No weekend work and no suit and tie, thank God. PEACE.
