Dread in Japan

Just say `NO`!

Yes kids, drugs are bad…..real bad! I haven`t posted for a minute because I have been on a mission. A research mission to find more information about the underground Japan when it comes to drugs and other things (more about the other things in a later post). What I found out so far is that drugs are not popular at all. This is probably due to the serious prison time you will do if you are caught with them. The laws here are messed up when it comes to this type of thing. The most messed up part is you will do the same amount of time if you are holding heroine or marijuana.

About marijuana, it apparently grows freely outside of the city and in the northern Japan. I have heard about people going to Hokkaido to pick it for free, but I don`t know about the quality. In Tokyo, the prices are outrageous! It will cost about 5000? (about $50CAD) for a gram of outdoor and 7000?(about $70CAD) for a gram of the brand name buds. There is also no price breakpoint. Whether you are buying a gram or an ounce the price is by the gram.

As for harder drugs like cocaine, meth, and lsd, the prices are even more ridiculous. Honestly, if drugs are your thing, this is not the place for you. I even heard that police will break into your home if they suspect that you are in possession of anything. Apparently the laws about search warrants aren`t the same here.

With the price and risk factor it is just not worth it. If you need a buzz do what everybody else here does: drink, drink, and drink some more. You can drink all day all night anywhere (even in public) and it`s available everywhere (including your neighbourhood 7/11). They even have vending machines that sell beer! On that note, I am going to the store to grab six of Asahi Super Dry (the best beer here).

PEACE

I’ve pretty much quit drinking, can’t remember the last time I had a drink…it’s been a long time.

Before he left for Japan my best friend and I split a few beers. I haven’t touched’em.

    Take care man.
